Intention and Focus, how to stay focused

Jump Start your day with intention, focus and concentration!

Many people jump out of bed in the morning and hit the floor running. Already they have a list of things to do and places to go. Their minds are racing a million miles a minute. They try to speed themselves up with plenty of caffeine and sugar. No wonder they find themselves crashing midway through the day!  They lack focus and concentration and can barely make it through the day. Arriving home they collapse in front of the TV “to relax” they say.

Instead, start your day with intention , focus and concentration. If you can, lie in bed for a few minutes, 2 or 3 is all that it takes. Breathe in and out slowly and think about what you want to happen. If you find other thoughts arriving that are not what you want, just imagine that you are putting those thoughts on a bus and sending them out of town for the day. Then move back to thoughts of how you want to feel and what you want to experience. Say out loud in your head, “Today I will feel and be_____________( happy, energetic, joyful, productive, focused, etc.) Fill in the blank with one or two words that describe  what you want to experience.

Now if you are one of those people who must jump out of bed immediately upon awakening, simply start your intentions while in the shower, brushing your teeth, shaving or getting dressed.

Are children begging for your attention in the morning?

Turn this into a family game! Get everyone involved in creating their day. Ask each child how they want to feel at school that day. Let them choose the words. Imagine what might happen if they went to school armed with good intentions, strong focus and concentration?

At the end of the day what happened? Have the discussion around the dinner table. Did you stay focused on your intention? If not, what happened? How do you want tomorrow to be? You will begin to see that more and more as you develope your skills of focus and concentration coupled with good positive intention you will all be having great days!

The more you can stay focused on what you want, the more you will find your desires become your reality.

Using the breath is another way to stay focused and relaxed. A technique I like is breathing for focus.
