When was the last time you purchased something from someone who lacked confidence or maybe was just plain scared. I mean a sales person who had fear written all over them. You can smell it can't you? They appear desparate, often speaking way too fast or maybe forgetting what they are saying. The tone of their voice tells you that they really don't expect to make the sale and they don't.
Now let's be honest shall we? All of us have been in this position at one time or another, some of us to a larger degree than others but we have all experienced that dreaded feeling before picking up the phone or walking into someones office. We have felt that knot in the pit of our stomach or the nervousness that comes with anxiety and stress.
You walk out of a sales meeting and are filled with fear, anxiety and uncertainty. Can you really do what they expect? You begin to second guess yourself and your confidence plumments. Often you find yourself procrastinating, putting off what you know needs to be done. The more you procrastinate the more the anxiety and stress build.
You are not doing what will bring you closer to your goal. Instead you are visiting with prospects you like instead of the ones you need to sell to. You while your day away on the computer or at Starbucks or maybe even re-organizing your desk to be more efficient you say. :-)
You look busy. Surely you won't get fired if you look busy right? If you are always busy no one will blame you for lack of sales will they? After all it isn't your fault. You are so busy every day. It must be the economy, right.
People still buy whether it is a good economy or a bad one. There will always be people with money to spend. It is simply a matter of finding them. You can blame your lack of sales on the ecomomy, your health, the weather or anything else you want to but the truth is the problem is usually you and a lack of confidence.
Techniques to reduce your stress and anxiety will naturally boost your confidence which in return will boost your sales. It's all about your energy and where you place your attention. Do you focus on what you want or what you fear?
