Beating Stress with Nutrition
Food and stress are closely related, they are in connection, going hand in hand in our lives. Everyone experienced during their lives that when we are stressed and angry, we tend to comfort ourselves by eating. So when our anger and stress level is going up, the resistance to eating food we like is getting to the minimum level. In many cases, this unhealthy action or habit results in becoming overweight and in severe cases obese, but if we have self control, moderation, some of our favorite food can reduce our stress and anxiety levels.
Nutrition is the key of success. With proper nutrition you have energy, strength, vitality and you are prepared to face everyday challenges, stress and anxiety. Try and prepare a diet plan, which includes your favorite, healthy food and lots of vegetables, fruits, seeds and whole grain, which will give you the needed vitamin, fiber, mineral and nutrition supplementation.
You are given a burst of energy, during intense stress, because adrenaline is produced, but after the crisis ends your blood-sugar level can drop increasingly. You can only get the balance back with proper nutrition. Some food types can increase the physical stress on the body by denying the brain essential nutrients and making digestion more difficult and complicated. Even more, stress itself can cause digestive problems. Drinks, mostly alcohol and coffee put a major strain on the body, having just as great effect as certain food types. So build up a proper nutrition plan and reduce the effects of stress with a sensible diet, while avoiding common problems.
Indigestion is a common problem, which can result from eating in a stressful situation, when the digestive system is not relaxed. This can also happen in case of not eating properly, only grabbing something on the run. No matter how stressful you are, try and sit down, chew food properly and eat more slowly. This way you will not only help proper digestion, but you will also enjoy your meal.
A main stress source is bloating, which can be avoided by minimizing cakes, biscuits, cream, milk, cheese or white bread and pasta consumption. Caffeine dependency is raising stress hormones causing dehydration and insomnia, which limits your body’s ability to handle with stress. Instead of coffee, try and choose some other delicious caffeine-free alternatives like herb teas to give you the energy boost for the day.
