4-4-8 Breathing Meditation

For Cleansing and revitalizing your body

Sit comfortably with you back straight. Relax your body, mind and emotions. How are you breathing? Is the air only going down 2 or 3 inches into your chest and 2 or 3 inches out of your nose?

Your body is nourished by the oxygen that you breathe and weak inhalations deny us the energy we need. 70% of all the waste products that build up in our bodies are released through the breath; therefore short exhalations mean we are unable to release the toxins. This is why we often feel run down, crabby and sleepy.

This meditation technique is designed to cleanse your body, mind, emotions and spirit by taking in a healthy dose of oxygen and ridding yourself of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and other impurities. This 4-4-8 breathing Meditation will bring enhanced clarity of thought and uplifted emotions.

  • Inhale deeply for 4 units of time.
  • Fill your lungs completely so you can see and feel your abdomen distend.
  • Retain your breath for the count of 4 and then exhale for 8 counts.
  • Obtain your own rhythm that feels right for you. You can’t do this wrong.
  • When you inhale, visualize all divine and healthy qualities coming to you.
  • When you hold to the count of four imagine all of those qualities filling every cell in your body.
  • Now as you exhale blow out any pain, illness, anger, impatience and so on.
  • It is recommended that you do 3 sets of twelve repetitions each. You may work up to 12 sets of 12 repetitions.
